Introducing AtlasMCP

AtlasMCP turns your WordPress site into an MCP server, allowing AI assistants and autonomous AI agents to securely interact with your website using natural language. It connects tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Cursor, and other MCP-compatible clients with WordPress, giving them access to your content, media, users, settings, WooCommerce data, and more.

What is AtlasMCP? #

AtlasMCP is a WordPress MCP server that connects your WordPress site with AI assistants and autonomous AI agents such as Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Cursor, and other MCP-compatible clients.

Once connected, AI clients can interact with your WordPress site through natural language. Depending on the permissions you grant, they can read, create, update, and manage content and other WordPress resources, including posts, pages, media, users, settings, and WooCommerce data.

AtlasMCP goes beyond providing a fixed set of tools. It includes built-in WordPress abilities and can automatically expose abilities registered by other plugins through the WordPress Abilities API. It can also turn REST API endpoints into AI-accessible tools, allowing your existing WordPress ecosystem to become available to AI agents.

How AtlasMCP Works? #

AtlasMCP acts as a bridge between your WordPress site and AI assistants or autonomous AI agents. It exposes WordPress capabilities as MCP tools that AI clients can discover and use through the Model Context Protocol.

When you connect an AI client such as Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or Cursor, AtlasMCP authenticates the connection and associates it with a WordPress user. The AI client then receives access to the tools and abilities allowed for that user’s role.

At a high level, the process works like this:

1. AtlasMCP runs on your WordPress site: The plugin provides an MCP server endpoint through your WordPress installation.
2. An AI client connects to AtlasMCP: You add the AtlasMCP server URL to a supported AI client and complete the authentication process.
3. The connection is authenticated: AtlasMCP uses OAuth 2.1 with PKCE and maps the connection to a WordPress user. JWT and Application Password authentication are also available as alternatives.
4. AtlasMCP exposes available abilities: The server makes its built-in WordPress abilities available to the AI client. Depending on your configuration and plan, it can also discover abilities registered by other plugins and convert REST API endpoints into AI tools.
5. Permissions determine what the AI can do: The connected user’s WordPress role and AtlasMCP’s access-control settings determine which tools and abilities are available to the AI client.
6. The AI uses the tools to interact with WordPress: When you ask the AI to perform an action, it selects the appropriate MCP tool and sends the request to your WordPress site.
7. WordPress performs the authorized action: AtlasMCP executes the requested ability using the permissions of the connected WordPress user and returns the result to the AI client.

AtlasMCP works with a range of popular AI assistants and development tools that support the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Once connected, these clients can discover and use the WordPress abilities exposed by AtlasMCP, subject to the permissions configured on your site.

• Claude Desktop: Connect AtlasMCP through Claude Desktop’s custom connector settings and authorize the connection through the browser.
• Claude.ai: Connect AtlasMCP directly from Claude’s web interface using a custom connector and complete the OAuth consent flow.
• ChatGPT: Connect AtlasMCP through ChatGPT’s Apps & Connectors settings with Developer Mode enabled and authorize the connection.
• Cursor: Add AtlasMCP as an MCP server in Cursor and use the exposed WordPress tools directly within your development workflow.
• Windsurf: Add the AtlasMCP server URL to Windsurf’s MCP configuration and access your WordPress abilities through Cascade.
• Gemini CLI: Add AtlasMCP as an MCP server using the Gemini CLI and complete authentication through the browser.
• Other MCP-compatible clients: AtlasMCP uses the standard MCP protocol and JSON-RPC 2.0, allowing it to work with other compatible MCP clients beyond the specifically documented integrations.
