Claude

Connecting Claude to WordPress with AtlasMCP allows you to manage and interact with your website directly through natural language. Once connected, you can ask Claude to work with your WordPress content, including creating and editing posts and pages, managing media, generating content, working with WooCommerce data, and using other abilities exposed by your site.

This turns Claude from a general AI assistant into an AI agent that can interact directly with your WordPress installation. What Claude can access and change depends on the WordPress user’s role and the permissions configured in AtlasMCP.

Before You Start (Requirments) #

Before connecting Claude to WordPress, make sure the following requirements are met:

• AtlasMCP installed and active: Use the free AtlasMCP plugin on WordPress 6.8+ with PHP 7.4+.
• HTTPS enabled: Your WordPress site must use a secure https:// URL. Remote MCP clients such as Claude.ai require HTTPS connections.
• WordPress user account: Use an account with the permissions required for the WordPress abilities you want Claude to access.
• AtlasMCP Pro (optional): Pro adds advanced controls such as per-role authorization policies, per-token scopes, and Tool, Resource, and Prompt access modes.

Your MCP Server Endpoint #

Once AtlasMCP is active, your MCP server is available at:

https://your-site.com/wp-json/awfah_mcp/mcp

You can find your exact endpoint in AtlasMCP → MCP Auth, under Add to your AI client.

Authentication #

AtlasMCP supports multiple authentication methods:

• OAuth 2.1 — Recommended for Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor. The client handles registration, login, authorization, and token issuance.
• JWT — Suitable for programmatic and custom integrations using a Bearer token.
• Application Passwords — Uses WordPress’s built-in application credentials for authenticated access.

Connecting Claude.ai (Website) #

Connect Claude.ai to your WordPress site through AtlasMCP to let Claude securely access and interact with your available WordPress tools and abilities. The connection uses OAuth 2.1, so you can authorize Claude directly from your browser without manually creating or copying authentication tokens.

Step 1: Enable OAuth 2.1 #

Before connecting Claude.ai, enable OAuth 2.1 in AtlasMCP. This allows Claude to securely authenticate with your WordPress site and handles the authorization process automatically.

1. In your WordPress admin dashboard, go to AtlasMCP → MCP Auth.
2. Enable Enable OAuth 2.1 connect for the MCP server.
3. Click Save to apply the changes.
4. Once enabled, AtlasMCP automatically publishes the required OAuth discovery documents and allows MCP clients to register.
5. No client ID or secret needs to be created or copied manually. After a client connects, you can view it in the Connected Clients table on the same page.

Step 2: Setup Claude.ai #

Once OAuth 2.1 is enabled, you can connect Claude.ai to your WordPress site using your AtlasMCP endpoint.

1. In WordPress, go to AtlasMCP → MCP Auth and copy your MCP endpoint URL: https://your-site.com/wp-json/awfah_mcp/mcp
2. Navigate to Claude.ai, Click on your Profile → open Settings → Connectors and click Add button to add custom connector.
3. Paste your MCP endpoint URL that you copied from previous step and confirm the connection. Claude will automatically discover the available authentication method.
4. Claude will open your WordPress authorization page. Log in if prompted, review the requested permissions, and click Authorize.
5. Once authorization is complete, Claude is connected to your WordPress site. The abilities available to your authorized WordPress user will appear in Claude as tools you can use through chat.

Connecting Claude Desktop App #

Connect the Claude Desktop app to your WordPress site through AtlasMCP to access your WordPress tools and abilities directly from your desktop. The connection uses OAuth 2.1 to securely authenticate and authorize Claude to access the resources available to your WordPress user.

Step 1: Enable OAuth 2.1 #

Before connecting Claude.ai, enable OAuth 2.1 in AtlasMCP. This allows Claude to securely authenticate with your WordPress site and handles the authorization process automatically.

1. In your WordPress admin dashboard, go to AtlasMCP → MCP Auth.
